Water Crisis in South Africa

I used to live in South Africa for 7 years but now I live in France and I'm 12.
The Theewaterskloof Dam in October 2010 at
90% full.
The water
has gone lower very quickly because of the weather, people stealing water and
lack of investment.

In the US
per person they use 295 L per day but in SA per person they now use only 100 L
per day because of the water crisis.
To fill up
an olympic swimming pool you need 2 500 000 L of water. Out of 100 L you only use
3 L for cooking and drinking. The rest of it is often wasted by abusing:
bathing, showering, laundry, gardening, toilets.

ReplyDeleteThank you for raising awareness about this, I have lived on a ship before and we had to save water, and were allowed 2 minute showers! Talk to someone in the navy and they will tell you how precious water is when you have a limited stock :).
